Lehighton hosted Minersville in Girls Varsity Volleyball Friday night. The Miners got off to a quick start taking an early lead in the first set. After being down 21-14, Lehighton rallied back with an 8-1 run to tie the set up at 22. Minersville head coach Kenton Martin responded with a very well placed timeout that helped rally the Miners to three consecutive points and a 25-22 1st set victory.

The Indians would respond, however. In the second set, their intensity and hustle increased as it seemed that they were diving all over the court on almost every play. After their lead in the set was cut to 12-11, the Indians took 13 of the final 14 points to even the match back up at 1-1.

Lehighton kept riding the momentum to take a quick 12-6 lead in the third set, capped with back to back aces from senior Sophia Salerno, answered by a Minersville timeout. The Indians cruised the rest of the way to take the set 25-18.

The fourth set continued on just as the second and third had with Lehighton dominating play. They took the final set rather easily 25-19 to win the match over the Miners 3-1.

Junior Megan Aaron provided loads of energy on the floor for Lehighton and was the vocal leader and spark the team needed. Senior captain Alexis Soloman, senior Sophia Salerno, and junior Hailey Miller all had very strong performances as well leading the Indians to victory. Lehighton takes on Palmerton tomorrow morning, and Minersville moves on to face Weatherly on Thursday.
