After a lot of waiting and anticipation, the Bangor Slaters took on the Southern Lehigh Spartans on Tuesday January 12th. The game looked very different than normal, but the players and coaches were ecstatic to be back on the court.
Both teams went into the game ready to play. It was very fast paced and had a high intensity. By the end of the first half, the Spartans were leading the Slaters 31-21.
During halftime, we spoke with Southern Lehigh’s coach, coach Tannous. Coach Tannous said, “I think we left a lot of points out there. We did a good job in getting out in transition, but we didn’t slow down to be able to finish all the plays. We missed a lot of easy points and a lot of free throws.” As for his expectations for the second half, Coach Tannous said, “Defensively, I think we need to get back in transition.”
After a rough first half, the Slaters knew they needed to collaborate more and put in more effort so they did just that. The entire second half was a close call. When one team scored, so did the other just moments later. In the end, the Slaters won 67-60.
CJ Miles was the top scorer out of both teams scoring 32 points total. Miles said it felt good to get the first win after all of their hard work. He said, “We were shaky in the first half because it was our first game of the season, but in the second half we picked it up.”
