Dunmore Girls Win Double Overtime Thriller Beating Notre Dame Green Pond 65-59

STROUDSBURG – With the game tied at 49. Dunmore (24-2) looked to Sophia Talutto. She took over in the second overtime, scoring 10 of her 29 points to lead the Lady Bucks over Notre Dame Green Pond (24-6) 65-59 in a thrilling overtime game.

Sophia topped 1,500 points last night for her career, an amazing feat.

With the win, Dunmore will face Loyalsock out of District 4, who won last night against West Catholic 54-35.

In the first quarter, both teams shot well and it was back and forth as both teams combined for 41 points. Dunmore led 21-20 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, it was Notre Dame Green Pond’s defense that held Dunmore to four points and a 31-25 lead at halftime.

With 5:07 left in the third quarter, Amanda Dempsey and Sophia Talutto hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to 36-35. Sophia’s fade away shot with 1:10 left in the quarter gave the Bucks the lead 37-36.

Dunmore’s Jackie Brown hit a foul shoot and Hammerstone hit a three-pointer to give the Crusaders’ the lead 39-38. Dempsey had a three-pointer giving Dunmore a 44-42 lead with 3:12 left. Lessig hit two foul shots with 1:02 left to tie it at 44. The score stayed tied at 44 and heading into overtime.

Notre Dame Green Pond’s Hammerstone hit a three and Lessig a foul shot. But Dunmore scored the next five points to give the Lady Bucks the lead 49-48 with 32.1 seconds remaining.

The Crusaders’ Riley Boyle was fouled rebounding the ball. She hit the first foul shot and missed the second. That was the end of the first overtimes.  We went into overtime number two tied at 49.

That is when Talutto dominated the scoring, adding 10 points in the second overtime to lead her team.

Amanda Dempsey finished the night scoring 14 points and Leah Conte added nine points for Dunmore.

Notre Dame Green Pond was led by Brenna Hammerstone who hit six three-pointers and finished with 18 points. Ella Schweitzer added 13 points and Emily Lessig had 12.
