MINERSVILLE — The Battlin’ Miners fell to the Tri-Valley Bulldogs, 31-6, in a lopsided contest. Tri-Valley controlled much of the game behind the legs of Trey Porter, who rushed for two touchdowns.
Minersville’s offense was stopped by the Bulldogs’ defense to open the game. Minersville’s Jordan Bowers then helped force the first turnover of the game, and the Miners capitalized with a field goal midway through the first quarter.
The Bulldogs got their offense going with a rushing touchdown with 5:48 remaining in the first quarter, giving Tri-Valley the lead.
Both defenses played well to start the second quarter, but Porter eventually broke through with a 2-yard touchdown run to extend the Bulldogs’ lead to 14-3. That score held through halftime.
The second half started much like the first, with both defenses making stops. Bowers eventually connected on another field goal for Minersville, cutting Tri-Valley’s lead to 14-6. The Bulldogs carried that eight-point advantage into the fourth quarter.
Tri-Valley began to take control in the fourth. Minersville attempted a fake punt deep in its own territory, but the Bulldogs stopped it and took possession with excellent field position. Tri-Valley capitalized with a field goal to extend its lead to 17-6.
The Bulldogs continued to pull away when Donovan Kieth scored on a rushing touchdown with 3:19 remaining in the fourth quarter, making it 24-6.
Tri-Valley put the finishing touches on the victory when Lucas Schwartz returned an interception for a touchdown, bringing the final score to 31-6 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Minersville (1-4) will travel to Shenandoah to take on the Blue Devils (3-1).
Tri-Valley (4-1) will return home to Hegins to take on the Marian Catholic Colts (2-2).
