2023 Boys Soccer Preview: Northwestern Lehigh Tigers

Head Coach: Nathan Hunsicker – 13th season

Assistant Coaches:
Derrick Reinert – Asst. Varsity/JV

Team Name: Northwestern Tigers

Sport: Soccer (B)

League: Colonial

2022 Record: 26-1 (including district/states playoff)

Key Players Lost:
Josh Zellner – FWD
Cayden Fitch – Mid
Dartanyon DeLilo – Mid
Damian Krapf – GK

Key Returning Players:
Matt Johnson – Senior/FWD
The second-leading scorer on last year’s team. Very dangerous striker.

Jack Mauro – Junior/Mid
A workhorse of our central midfield. Works extremely hard both on and off the ball. Jack is a dangerous scorer as well as a talented defensive player.

Nate Kinzel – Junior/Defender
Strong defender and leader of our back line.

Jake Van Lierop – Junior/Midfield
Jake scored some huge goals for us in our playoff run last year and we’re counting on him to continue to be a threat offensively this year.

Caelan Stangil – Sophmore/Defender
After a strong freshman year, we’re looking to mix and match Caelan in both our defense and midfield. He’s very skilled on the ball and makes good decisions distributing.

Isaac Frey – Senior/Outside Mid
We’re counting on Isaac to continue to grow into his role this year and be another dangerous option we have in our attack.

Nick Krum – Senior/Def
Nick was a key piece of our backline last season. We are looking for him to have another solid senior season and help keep opponents off the scoreboard.

Key Newcomers:
Brandon Krapf – Jr/GK
Logan Mesics – Soph/Mid
Tim Zellner – Sr/Def
Cole Mertz – Fr/Mid

2023 Outlook: “We obviously set a very high bar for ourselves by winning the state title last season. We feel that we bring back a group of kids that are capable of repeating that feat but we certainly aren’t getting ahead of ourselves.”

“Our goals this season include competing to win a league title, defending our district title, and then hopefully making another run in the state tournament.”

“We have a really talented, hardworking, and well-rounded group of kids on the roster this year and we are looking to make the most of this season. We feel that we have all the pieces to make this happen but we need to come together as a team with this common goal and stay focused and driven. ”
