3-star Quarterback Dante Carr commits to UCF

Dante Carr of Minersville only ever dreamed of playing Power 4 college football, but never thought of it as a reality. Now that dream has become a reality as he announced his commitment to the University of Central Florida on X Tuesday night. UCF was chosen over Rutgers, Army, Coastal Carolina, and other schools.

Carr said he’s honored to join a long list of Minersville football players to play in college such as Brian Demcher (‘96) who played at Army, and Dan Lipsett (‘84) played at Rutgers. Another notable player was Frank Brady of Navy in the late-40’s and early-50’s who returned a punt for a 100 yard touchdown against Maryland in 1951. There are many other Battlin’ Miners who went to college who you can find with the Google Sheets link below thanks to Shayne Schafer.

Minersville alumnus, current football Head Coach and Dean of Students, Justin Frantz, helped develop Carr into the Quarterback he is today. He (Carr) says “Without Coach Frantz, I would’ve never been in this position. Coach Frantz gave me the offense since I was a freshman and messaged 100s of schools about me.” Frantz was a college quarterback at Dickinson College in Division Three. Dante is also thankful for the entire Minersville coaching staff and his Quarterback coaches, Jim Cantafio and Chad Henne, who is a 15 year NFL Quarterback and 2x Super Bowl champion. The people who he (Dante) is most grateful for is his family because of the time they put into his recruiting journey. No matter if it was a 5 minute ride to practice or a 12 hour drive to Virginia Tech, his family loved every moment of his journey and didn’t regret a single second.

Going into his senior season at Minersville Area, Carr only needs 348 passing yards to pass Scott Schwalm who holds the record at 4,417 yards. Dante is currently at 4,069 yards. He (Carr) also needs 1,932 rushing yards to take the record away from Luke Stevenosky (‘24) who is at 4,071 yards, Carr has 2,139 yards currently. Stevenosky is currently playing Football and Track & Field at East Stroudsburg University.
