Lehighton Edges Out Jim Thorpe

The Jim Thorpe Olympians welcomed their rivals, the Lehighton Indians, for their first Varsity Boy’s Basketball game of the 2021 season.

At the end of the first quarter, Lehighton led Jim Thorpe 12-6. Lehighton extended their lead to 19-9 in the second quarter. Lehighton led Jim Thorpe 23-15 at the half. Richie Yturrino led Lehighton with 13 points scored and Chris Condly led Jim Thorpe with six points scored in the first half.

At the end of the third quarter, Jim Thorpe cut down Lehighton’s lead to six points making the score 33-27. Jim Thorpe continued to close in on Lehighton in the fourth quarter. Condly did his best to lead Jim Thorpe to a victory scoring eight points in the fourth quarter. Lehighton hung on for the win by a score of 39-35.

Lehighton’s top scorers were Yturrino with 17 points and Zach Hunsicker with 12 points. Jim Thorpe was led by Condly with 16 points and David Richards with eight points. Lehighton starts out the season with a 1-0 record and will look to continue their winning streak as they travel to Pottsville to take on the Crimson Tide, Monday January 11th at 7:00PM. Jim Thorpe falls to 0-1 and will look to rebound as they welcome the Marian Catholic Colts on Saturday, January 9th at 12:30PM.
