Palisades Falls to Notre Dame Green Pond 1-4

The Palisades Pirates took the court Monday afternoon in their first match of their season. Though it was an away match, the girls were excited to start their season with a new coach, Jeff Opp, who took over the reigns from being the assistant coach last year.

Palisades has a young team this year, with only one girl in the same ranking as last year. Their leading lineup was as follows:

1st Singles: Katherine Kelly, junior

2nd Singles: Mary Aherne, junior

3rd Singles: Allie Wenskoski, junior

1st Doubles: Emma Watson and Sarah Goggin, juniors

2nd Doubles: Zozo Mekki and Cora Anderson, senior and freshman

The Pirates fell behind quickly, after Kelly lost and Aherne lost. Watson and Goggin were then soon to follow, though they fought a tough battle. Wenskoski finished next with a loss after a close tiebreaker. However, Palisades ended on a positive note, with a win from their Second Doubles team.

The match finished up with the following scores:

1st Singles: 0-6, 0-6, Notre Dame G.P. won

2nd Singles: Notre Dame G.P. won

3rd Singles: 1-1, tiebreaker 8-10, Notre Dame G.P. won

1st Doubles: 3-6, 6-6 to tiebreaker: 5-7, Notre Dame G.P. won

2nd Doubles: 6-3, 6-3, Palisades won

Palisades has their home opener against Jim Thorpe on Thursday at 4:00.
