Palisades Girls’ Tennis Scores Big Against Pen Argyl

Monday night was not only the first day of school for both schools but additionally one of their first tennis matches. Pen Argyl’s girls’ tennis team traveled to Palisades to face off at 4 pm. The singles teams were set as follows.

1st Singles: Katherine Kelly (Palisades) vs. Lily Falletta (Pen Argyl)
2nd Singles: Mary Aherne (Palisades) vs. Kayla Holley (Pen Argyl)
3rd Singles: Allie Wenskoski (Palisades) vs. Elise Dailey (Pen Argyl)

The match started off quick with Palisades leading in all singles matches. However, there was a battle for doubles. Pen Argyl won the first set of the First Singles match, but the Pirates fought back to win the second. In fact, the First Singles match took the longest amount of time, as the teams played for almost 2.5 hours.

In the end, Palisades was able to pull off their first win of the season. Kelly won her match 6-2, 6-0. Aherne achieved the victory with a score of 6-2, 6-1 and Wenskoski won her match as well, with a final score of 6-2, 6-2. With a singles sweep, Palisades won in spite of losing both doubles matches. The First Singles match went into a third set after Pen Arygl won the first set 6-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker, and Palisades won the second set, 6-4. After a brutal battle, Pen Argyl won First Singles 6-2 in the third set. Additionally, the Green Knights won Second Singles 2-6, 2-6, but it was not enough to secure the team win.

Both teams will have their next matches on Tuesday, 8/31. Palisades is home against Bangor and Pen Argyl is away against Wilson.
