Palisades Wins! 3-2 Against Wilson

After a challenging, unfinished match against Jim Thorpe on Thursday, the Palisades Pirates hit their home courts on Tuesday ready to play. Their last match was partially played when they suffered a rain delay.

The starting lineup for Palisades was:

1st Singles: Katherine Kelly, junior
2nd Singles: Mary Aherne, junior
3rd Singles: Allie Wenskoski, junior
1st Doubles: Zozo Mekki and Cora Anderson, senior and freshman respectively
2nd Doubles: Emma Watson and Sarah Goggin, juniors

Wilson’s three singles players included Malia Bennett (1st singles), Marissa Spencer, (2nd singles), and Mary Elizabeth Soffera (3rd singles).

Palisades took a tough forfeit in their 1st Singles match when Kelly had to stop playing due to intense dehydration and heat exhaustion.

In 2nd Singles, Aherne put up a tough fight after winning the first set after a tiebreaker, and then losing the second set. The match went down to a 12 point tiebreaker where Aherne lost, 12-10. In spite of this crushing loss, Aherne and Spencer were evenly matched throughout the entire day, thus playing for over two hours.

Wenskoski took home the win after winning both sets 6-0. Though Soffera did not win a single game, she played tough and had some nice shots. The 3rd singles match was over quickly though.

1st Doubles for Palisades additionally won, after winning both sets 6-2.

Finally, 2nd Doubles for Palisades won the first set 6-3 and then the second set 6-1. Overall, it was a good day for Palisades and their tough playing shined through to give them their first home win of the season.

Palisades will travel for their next match on Thursday against Pen Argyl.
