Senior Night At Palisades

[ngg src=”galleries” ids=”208″ display=”basic_thumbnail” thumbnail_crop=”0″]Thursday marked a special moment at Palisades’ tennis courts, Senior Night. Though it wasn’t their final home match, and there was only one senior, Palisades tried to make it as special as they could. They wanted to give Zozo Mekki the send off she deserved.

The Pirates faced Notre Dame Green Pond for the second time this season. However, this time they had the home field (court) advantage. The lineups were read and were as followed:

1st Singles: Katherine Kelly, Palisades, vs. Nasa Burton, N.D.

2nd Singles: Mary Aherne, Palisades, vs. Amber Unger, N.D.

3rd Singles: Allie Wenskoski, Palisades, vs. Harper Hogan, N.D.

1st Doubles: Cora Anderson and Zozo Mekki, Palisades, vs. Alex Smith and Kaiser Kon, N.D.

2nd Doubles: Emma Watson and Sarah Goggin, Palisades, vs. Kathy Lopez and Sabine Bassic, N.D.

Tough matches were played all around. Third singles, first doubles, and second doubles all had to go to a third set with both third singles and first doubles then going on to a seven-point tiebreaker.

The scores for each match are as follows:

1st Singles: 6-1, 6-0, Notre Dame won

2nd Singles: 6-2, 6-1, Notre Dame won

3rd Singles: 6-2, 4-6, and tiebreaker 7-4, Palisades won

1st Doubles: 6-4, 5-7, and tiebreaker 8-6, Palisades won

2nd Doubles: each won one set (1-1) and Notre Dame won third set

Though Palisades came so close, they just couldn’t earn a win, losing 2-3. However, the team was in good spirits because the Senior Night festivities were after the match and Zozo Mekki, the only senior, won her match with partner Cora Anderson.

Palisades will continue their season on Monday, with a home match against Bangor.
