Stroudsburg Mountaineers Varsity Softball Blows Out Pleasant Valley Thanks to Big Sixth Inning

Stroudsburg Varsity defeated Pleasant Valley 8-2 on Friday thanks to a timely six runs in a big sixth inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Natalie Berwick and Haleigh Mazol, a triple by Ciara Longo, an error on a ball put in play by Bailey Goldberg, and a double by Chloe Carmella.

Pleasant Valley opened up scoring in the first inning, when Danica Getz hit a solo homer.

The Mountaineers pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. Goldberg doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run and Lilah Guthy doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Stroudsburg Mountaineers Varsity notched six runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Berwick and Mazol, a triple by Longo, an error on a ball put in play by Goldberg, and a double by Carmella.

Berwick was credited with the victory for Stroudsburg Mountaineers Varsity. Berwick surrendered two runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out 17 and walking zero.

The Mountaineers totaled 11 hits in the game. Longo, Berwick, and Guthy each managed multiple hits. Longo led the team with three hits in four at bats. They didn’t commit a single error in the field. Janine Crawford had 17 chances in the field, the most on the team.
