Sport: Tennis (B)

Team Name: Central Catholic Vikings

League: EPC

2024 Record: 15-5

Key Players Lost:
Timmy Spinosa – 1 singles
Mack Zeller – 2 singles
Ian Abbadessa – 2 doubles
Zach Torchia – 4 doubles
Arseny Skrapits – 4 doubles

Key Returning Players:
Matt Keenan (senior) – 1 singles. Matt is stepping up from playing at 3 singles last year. He improved a lot over the course of last season and has been working hard in the offseason. The team will also look to him as this years leader.

Thomas Dzik (senior) – singles. Thomas earned the right to start the season at singles. He has improved a lot the past two years but this will be his biggest challenge yet.

Aryaan Chauhan (senior) and Alex Germick (senior) – 2 doubles. Aryaan returns holding down his spot on our top doubles pairing. Alex will step up this year into the top pairing. We will look them to be an anchor and potential strength of our lineup.

Thomas Rutt (senior), Zach Abbadessa (sophomore), and Matthew Wheeler (sophomore) – Thomas will return as a starter at doubles. Zach and Matt were on the varsity team last season, but now moving into everyday starting roles. How they gel and improve over the course of the season will have a big impact on how we finish the season.

Key Newcomers:
Tommy Spinosa (Freshman) – singles. Tommy follows in his brother’s path and jumps into the singles lineup his first year. He’s just begin to scratch his potential and is getting better every time he steps on the court. He will start the season at 3 singles, but could potentially move up as the season progresses.

Ben Ralston (junior), Kyan Block (sophomore), James Raynock (junior) – Ben earned the first crack at the 9th starting spot, but all three our improving and pushing each other, so they could form a rotation at our 4 doubles team.

Jude Yakamavage (so), John Craig (so), Gavin Sohaney (jr), John Petfield (jr) – add depths and round up our varsity roster.

2025 Outlook:
While certainly a transition year, because its never easy to replace multiple singles players, let alone players like Timmy and Mack who held down those singles spots for 3-4 seasons, we expect to be highly competitive still and challenge for a district title.

We will have solid play and consistency at the top of our singles and doubles lineups with Matt the sole returning singles player and Aryaan and Alex returning with a ton of doubles experience. They will form the heart of our lineup.

How much we can achieve will depend on the important development of Thomas Dzik and Tommy Spinosa in singles, and Thomas Rutt, Zach Abbadessa, and Matthew Wheeler in doubles. They all have a lot of potential but need match experience. How they progress over the course of the regular season will set the stage for us into the postseason, and whether we are serious contenders for a district title.

The Vikings had a great first week of practice despite the difficult weather conditions, and are excited to get underway!
