Tremba 4 Touchdowns Lead Parkland to Big win over Bethlehem Catholic

OREFIELD – Parkland’s Luke Spang threw for 227 yards, three touchdowns and one rushing touchdown to lead the Trojans (8-0) over Bethlehem Catholic (5-3) 40-3 Friday night at Orefield Middle School Stadium.

“Luke did a good job moving the ball tonight,” said Tim Moncman. “He did a great job passing and running tonight to keep Bethlehem Catholic off balance.”

In the first quarter, the Trojans defense set the tone forcing the Golden Hawks to a three-and-out. From there, Spang set the tone. He capped off the drive scoring from one yard out. Aidan Gallagher’s kick made it 7-0 Trojans.

Trey Tremba added a two-yard rushing touchdown in the quarter and an eight-yard score early in the second quarter. The Trojans quickly led 20-0.

Spang and Connor Johns hooked up twice for touchdowns in the quarter. The first touchdown pass was a thing of beauty. Spang’s sidearm throw to Johns was similar to a Patrick Mahomes’ pass. On the next one, Spang stepped up in the pocket, avoided the sack and threw a perfect pass to Johns for the score. Johns finished the night catching five passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

“It’s only his second year of football,” said Moncman. “It’s like night and day from last year and he keeps getting better each game.”

With 10.2 seconds left in the first half, Tremba intercepted a pass to end the Golden Hawks’ first half. The Trojans led 33-0 at halftime.

“He plays both sides of the ball,” said Moncman. “He had the pick before half and he does a lot of different things for us and is all over the field.”

The Trojans had the only scoring in the third quarter. Spang threw his third touchdown of the night. He rolled out and found Jendel Sanchez for a ten-yard touchdown. It was 40-0 with 2:38 left in the quarter.

With the younger players playing in the fourth quarter, Bethlehem Catholic’s Jeremy Fyrer kicked a 32-yard field goal.

The Trojans’ defense held the Golden Hawks to three points and under 50 yards rushing tonight.

“I thought our defense was our strong point tonight,” said Moncman. “We got at it tonight and didn’t give up many big plays.”

Note:
Next weekend, Parkland travels to Easton Area and Bethlehem Catholic hits the road to Nazareth.
