Minersville digs their way to a victory over Tamaqua

Minersville got moved up to Division 1 of the Schuylkill League, but that has not been a challenge for the Minersville boys’ basketball team, as they defeated Tamaqua at home 62-28, thanks to Shazier Bethea.

For the Battlin’ Miners, Bethea led the scoring with 20 points. Dante Carr had 12 points with 4 of them being back-to-back dunks. Bradley Kostishak had 10 points tonight, most coming from offensive rebounds in the 3rd quarter. Others who scored for Minersville include Logan Hutsko (2), Kaseem Lofton (2), Dawsyn Manning (7), AJ Halford (4), and Jordan Bowers (5). For the Blue Raiders, Cooper Ansbach took the lead for his team’s scoring with 12 points. Noah Mateyak contributed with 10 points and Brady McCabe had 2 points. Other scorers for Tamaqua are Elvys Reyes (1), and Luke Kane (3). Fouling for both sides wasn’t an issue as Minersville had 8 team fouls and Tamaqua had 6.

Entering his third year as the head coach of the Minersville program, Dave Mullaney and his squad focus on rebounding, especially on the offensive side, where Kostishak got most of his points. Coach Mullaney and his staff describe him as a “go-get guy.”

Minersville has a tough schedule ahead with their next game on Monday as they welcome Blue Mountain. Tamaqua will host Mount Carmel on Saturday. With today’s win, Minersville goes to 2-0 on the season while Tamaqua falls to 0-2.
