Minersville wins physical game over Blue Mountain

In a physical boys basketball game on Monday, Minersville fought for the 53-49 victory at home against Blue Mountain.

Dante Carr had the most points for Minersville with 19. Shazier Bethea had 17 points along with Bradley Kostishak with six points. Other scorers for the Miners included Logan Hutsko (4), Dawsyn Manning (2) with the victory securing free throw, and Jordan Bowers (2).

Blue Mountain’s leading scorer was former Minersville player, Tyeirre Meade, who had 20 points. Aiden Grace had nine points, all three pointers. Chase Baldwin, Cohen Werner, and Merik Brayford all had  sixpoints. It was a very physical game, especially in the first half. Minersville had nine team fouls while Blue Mountain had 18. Each team had one player foul out of the game. The Battlin’ Miners had Logan Hutsko fouling out and the Eagles had Chase Guers out on fouls too.

Dante Carr had eight of his 19 points from foul shots, which the team practices almost every practice. Carr missed four free throws in the first half. Coach Mullaney motivated him at halftime, and the foul shots started falling. Carr and Bethea both missed playing with Meade, their former teammate. Both of them agree that covering Tyeirre is difficult because he is a good shooter.

After today’s win, Minersville improved to 3-0 and the loss for Blue Mountain puts them at 1-2 on the season. Both teams play Thursday but Minersville will travel to Martz Hall to face Pottsville and Blue Mountain will host Tamaqua.
