Key Losses from Last Season: This season, we face the challenge of rebuilding after the departure of an exceptionally accomplished group of players. Among the key losses are Jack Keiter, Zane Zulkowski, Joey Flail, Luke Miller, Cooper Carl, Tyrone Chambers, Fernando Rivera, Hunter Rogers, Aiden Zilker, Logan Carl, Noel Drum, and Bryce Cuthie. This departing group of about 15 players—10 of them seniors—was instrumental in our program’s success, helping lead us to four consecutive district playoff appearances, two league playoff appearances, a league final, and a district final. Many of these players started with me as freshmen during my first year coaching, and their experience and contributions will be deeply missed.
Key Returning Players: With significant turnover, we’ll lean heavily on our two returning varsity players, Jude Maziekas and Zack Marcinowski. Jude has had an outstanding summer, solidifying himself as one of the top shooters in the league, while Zack has the potential to make a major leap this year. Their leadership, work ethic, and experience will be critical as we integrate new faces into varsity roles.
Impactful Newcomers: Despite limited varsity experience, we are excited about the potential of our newcomers. Players like Julian Nelson, Sam Wall, Raylin Cabral, Max Gallagher, Niko White (6’4), Cam Kacilowicz, Xavier McNally (6’8), Noah Grow, Cody Osenbach, and Cash Kreitzer are poised to make a significant impact. These players bring a mix of skill, size, and determination that will be vital as we work to build a cohesive and competitive team.
Keys to Success: Our success this season will depend on developing a unified, team-first mentality. With limited varsity experience, it’s crucial that we focus on building chemistry and trust among players. Each individual must embrace their role and commit to pushing themselves and their teammates toward excellence. The growth of each player will directly contribute to our collective success. If we can foster selflessness, accountability, and a relentless work ethic, this team has the potential to achieve remarkable things.
Biggest Challenge: The greatest challenge ahead lies in adapting to the speed, physicality, and mental demands of varsity basketball. With only two returning players with varsity minutes, overcoming inexperience will require significant growth, both individually and as a team. However, this group has already shown a strong willingness to learn and improve. By focusing on the principles of “One Team, One Goal,” we believe that this team can rise to the occasion, face adversity head-on, and create a legacy of its own.
