2026 Outlook: Lineup is still being fine tuned and positions being worked out as the guys battle each other. This will be a very unproven team. We have had a ton of changeover the last two seasons. A lot of guys who have been working hard last couple of seasons behind the scenes been waiting for their opportunity in the starting lineup. This makes them a hungry team, they will work hard, and they are excited to be part of the winning tradition at Viking tennis.

Whether we can get back to the district finals and compete for the title for the 6th straight season will depend on how we improve over the course of the season.

Joseph Cannetti

Team strengths: The Timberwolves return a group of players who have gained valuable varsity experience and understand the expectations of competitive match play. The team brings returning experience at the singles positions along with a group of players who have shown strong effort, commitment, and a willingness to continue improving their game throughout the season.

Team weaknesses: Doubles experience will be an area of development this season. With several new combinations and players stepping into larger roles, building chemistry, communication, and match awareness in doubles will be important as the season progresses.

Key to success: Continued improvement through hard work and consistency in practice will be critical. In singles play, success will come from staying in points, limiting unforced errors, and competing for every game. In doubles, the key will be how quickly the new pairings develop communication and teamwork on the court. Maintaining a positive mindset and continuing to compete in every match will help the team grow throughout the season.

Head Coach: Emilio Mercado (3rd year)

Assistant Coaches:
Evan Rosenbrook

Team Name: Jim Thorpe Olympians

League: Colonial

2025 Record: 1-15

Key Players Lost:
Evan Rosebrook – 2nd Singles

Key Returning Players:
Alex Plesniarski — Senior, 5’9″, Singles
Alex is our captain, and he makes sure he’s on top of his own game while pushing his teammates to elevate theirs. He’s always encouraging them to stay focused and locked in.

Ian Walck — Senior, 6’1″, Singles and Doubles
Ian is our speedster and pseudo‑wall. He chases down every ball he can to make sure the point stays alive and gives himself every chance to win it.

Maxwell Priore — Senior, 5’9″, Singles and Doubles
Max is a wildcard. He’ll do whatever he wants on the court, and his unpredictability throws off his opponents in the best way.

Trent Sutphin — Junior, 5’7″, Singles and Doubles
Trent has a lot of natural strength, and he’s been working hard on learning to control it and use it at the right moments.

Drayden Mathurin — Sophomore, 5’10”, Doubles
Drayden put in serious work over the summer, even practicing on weekends when I wasn’t there. He’s shown major improvement and growing confidence, attacking the ball instead of waiting for it to come to him.

Key Newcomers: Jonas Lambert: Junior, 5’11, Doubles

2026 Outlook: We have a mostly returning team, so our teamwork and coordination are already in place. What we need now is for our boys to keep practicing and not let outside factors get to them; whether that’s their own thoughts or things happening in their lives. No matter the challenges, we have to push through and give our best. The competition is tough in the Colonial League, but that’s all the more reason for us to keep working.
