Another Successful Game for PBurg Football

Phillipsburg’s football team went into the game Thursday night 2-0 against a 0-3 North Hunterdon.

Both teams turned the ball over in the first quarter. Marvelous Shabi from Phillipsburg intercepted the ball at the goal line in the first quarter. North Hunterdon’s Marcus Labib intercepted a pass later that quarter. Despite these big plays, the game remained scoreless at the end of the first quarter.

First and goal, Phillipsburg’s Caleb Rivera ran in the touchdown, putting the game’s first points on the board. Senior kicker Colin Hoey was successful with the extra point.

North then matched Phillipsburg with a thirteen-yard touchdown. Their kicker, Ben Cleary, made the extra point. This tied up the score 7-7.

PBurg’s John Wargo scored the second PBurg touchdown of the night. The extra point was good, putting PBurg at 14-7.

North Hunterdon fumbled the ball and Phillipsburg’s Patch Day recovered it. This led to a thirty-six-yard pass to Kevin Burgess. With another successful extra point by Hoey, PBurg led 21-7. At the end of the second quarter, Burgess scored his second touchdown of the night. This put PBurg at 28-7 at halftime.

To start the second half, PBurg’s Jah’Quil Dooley ran in the fifth Phillipsburg touchdown of the night. The extra point was unsuccessful, putting the score at 34-7.

Later in the third quarter, Dooley scored this second touchdown of the night. Hoey completed another extra point, putting PBurg up 41-7.

At the end of the third quarter, PBurg’s Nick Stettner handed the ball off to Omar Dominguez for yet another touchdown. PBurg led 48-7 at the end of the third quarter.

To finish off the game, Phillipsburg scored once more. Sean Negron ran in the ball for a touchdown. The final score was Phillipsburg 54 North Hunterdon 7.
