Ayla Castle scores 23 for Minersville in girls basketball victory against Tri-Valley

It was a one sided game the whole second half, but Ayla Castle scored 20 points in the last 16 minutes to secure the Miners victory over the Bulldogs. This was Senior Night for Castle tonight too so it was a great ending to a great career.

For Minersville, Castle really contributed with 23 points. Alayna Boom netted 15 with Rilynn Brennan and Jenna Cullen each had nine. Other scorers were Emma Troutman (5), and Shayla Micklesavage (3). Avery Miller carried the Bulldogs with 21 points. Faith Artz contributed with 14 points, all layups and under the basket. Ava Snyder scored four points. There were no other scorers for Tri-Valley.

The first quarter was a close game with the end score being a Battlin’ Miner lead 10-6. The second quarter was another close quarter but Minersville still had the lead 23-21. Castle really started scoring in the third quarter where she had 15 points, all three-pointers. The lead was widened by the end of that quarter where the score was 43-31 after those eight minutes. Multiple Minersville players had five or more points in the fourth quarter. Those players were Brennan (6), Troutman (5), and Castle (5). Tri-Valley had nine team fouls while Minersville had 13.

This concludes the season for Minersville as they finish 2-20. The Bulldogs have their next contest against Upper Dauphin scheduled for February 8th at 1:00pm.
