Crusaders defeat Warriors on senior night

The night of October 8 at Notre Dame High School began with a ceremony given by Notre Dame’s Athletic Director, Amy Rogers, celebrating the ND girl’s soccer team on their Senior Night. All thirteen ND seniors were escorted to the center of the field with their family members as Rogers announced their academic and athletic achievements. After a quick picture with the seniors and their parents, the Crusaders took the field to battle against the Wilson Warriors.

The Crusaders were determined to win on their Senior Night, and the Warriors looked to get their first win of the season. The first half began with a strong offensive attack by the Crusaders. Notre Dame was able to put up several shots on goal and outweighed the Warriors in possession time. The Crusaders were able to strike first after junior, Maddie Tuskes, assisted junior, Helina Macchia, to put the Crusaders up 1-0.

Wilson had a spark of energy and was able to show off a powerful offense to tie the game at 1-1. The first half ended with tensions high on both sidelines with a 1-1 score.

The second half proved to be as action-packed as the first as neither team was able to pull away. The Crusaders saw their opportunity to take the lead on a corner kick that resulted in a header by senior, Lexi Disora, to set up senior, Ava Santorelli, for a goal. The Crusaders went up 2-1 with 14:13 left in the game.

The Crusaders left the game with an exclamation point after a booming shot set up by senior, Paige Koehler, to junior, Sydney DeFranco, that put ND up 3-1 late in the second half. After an impressive second half by the Crusaders, the Warriors were not able to respond. ND defeated Wilson 3-1 on their Senior Night. The Crusaders will take on Allentown Central Catholic on October 9.
