The Indians traveled to Palmerton for a colonial league matchup last night, Friday, September 12th. Lehighton had a hard fought loss by one point against Southern Lehigh last week. Palmerton on the other hand defeated the Panthers of Saucon Valley 19-6 in their most recent contest.
The Bombers chose to get the ball after the second half, so the Indians received to open the game. This played in favor until Palmerton was charging early on defense and grabbed an interception. Lehighton’s defense didn’t think much of it and turned the ball over to try once more. Junior running back, Lukas Crozier wove his way through to fly down field for a 68-yard touchdown. They went on to complete the two-point conversion making it 8-0 early, with roughly six minutes left in the first quarter.
The Tribe’s momentum just kept on rolling very early as they had Palmerton punting it away. Caden Meek received the ball from a hand off shortly after for another tremendous 60-yard play. DiGrazia, a junior linebacker snatched it from the Bombers to line up yet another Indians touchdown. Ty Nansteel was in quarterback with Jayse Lawerence in his vision as he hit him with a 23-yard pass and a completed two-point attempt. This made the score 22-0 Tribe, as the second quarter began.
As the next quarter unfolded, the Bombers had some valuable drives, but the Tribe defense was on their A game, stopping anything in their way. Palmerton was lined up to acquire a touchdown after quarterback T.K. Gursky threw for about 40 yards, maintaining a steady charge. They ran into a predicament as the Lehighton defense struck, forcing a turnover near the end zone, giving the ball back to the Indians.
The Bombers set up another positive drive into the Indian territory, but Caden Meek was all eyes, as he tracked it down to intercept Gurskys pass. That made Palmerton blank the first half. As the second half started, the Lehighton defense was firm, when Meek swept up another interception. The Tribe marched downfield in a little bit of time, setting up a touchdown. The Indian captain, Lawerence, looked for a man but took it in himself for a nine-yard score. Lehighton was able to obtain some more insurance late in the fourth quarter, over the Blue Bombers, when senior running back Equan Warner charged through for 20 yards up the gut.
That would cap off the evening as the Blue Bombers finished the game (1-3). The Indians are now (2-2) with a triumphant 35-0 win. They seek to grab another victory, on home turf against Northwestern Lehigh (4-0) next week Friday, September 19th. Palmerton looks to get a winning streak going when they venture to (2-1) Northern Lehigh next week.
