EMMAUS, Pa. – Top-seeded Emmaus broke open a scoreless contest with three second-half goals in a span of just two minutes and 30 seconds to defeat eighth-seeded Nazareth 3-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) boys soccer quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 20.
The Green Hornets improved to 17-0-2 overall and 15-0-2 in conference play, keeping their unbeaten season alive and advancing to the EPC semifinals. Nazareth finished the contest with an 8-6-5 overall record and an 8-5-4 conference mark.
Despite Emmaus controlling much of the offensive action, Nazareth kept the Green Hornets off the scoreboard throughout the opening half. The Blue Eagles’ defense, anchored by goalkeeper Owen Moyer, held firm against an Emmaus attack that eventually produced 17 shots and nine corner kicks.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when London Barrett found the back of the net with 31:29 remaining, giving Emmaus a 1-0 advantage.
Just over two minutes later, Caeden Thornton doubled the Green Hornets’ lead, scoring with 29:28 remaining to make it 2-0.
Emmaus wasted little time adding another goal. Only 29 seconds after Thornton’s score, Noah Tintle converted a scoring opportunity off an assist from Noah Delgado with 28:59 remaining, extending the lead to 3-0.
The three-goal outburst put Emmaus firmly in control after a tightly contested first half.
The Green Hornets dominated the offensive statistics, outshooting Nazareth 17-2 and holding an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. Emmaus also earned nine corner kicks compared to just one for the Blue Eagles.
Moyer turned in a strong performance in goal for Nazareth despite the loss, recording eight saves against the relentless Emmaus attack.
For Emmaus, Chase Evans and Nate Schalles shared goalkeeping duties. Evans finished without a save, while Schalles recorded one as the Green Hornets completed the shutout.
The victory sends Emmaus into the EPC semifinals with its undefeated record intact as the Green Hornets continue their pursuit of a conference championship.
Nazareth, meanwhile, battled the tournament’s top seed through a scoreless opening half before Emmaus’ quick second-half scoring surge proved too much to overcome.
