WHITEHALL – The Emmaus field hockey program added another chapter to its remarkable championship history, capturing its 38th consecutive District 11 title with a 2-0 shutout victory over rival Parkland in the Class 3A championship game.
Led by two goals from Ella Horner and another outstanding defensive performance, the Green Hornets improved to a perfect 23-0 on the season while continuing one of the most impressive championship streaks in Pennsylvania high school sports.
For Emmaus, winning district championships has become a tradition spanning nearly four decades. The Green Hornets’ 38 consecutive titles reflect the program’s remarkable consistency, dedication and sustained excellence.
Parkland, which entered the championship contest with an 18-4-1 record, battled throughout the game but was unable to break through Emmaus’ defense.
The Green Hornets controlled much of the offensive action, outshooting the Trojans 15-6 and holding a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Emmaus broke through in the second quarter when Horner found the back of the cage off an assist from Marissa Gigliotti, giving the Green Hornets a 1-0 advantage.
The goal proved to be the difference for much of the contest as Parkland continued to challenge Emmaus while looking for the equalizer.
The Trojans generated six shots, including five on goal, but Emmaus goalkeeper Emily Romano was up to the challenge.
Romano turned away all five shots on goal, preserving the shutout and helping the Green Hornets maintain their narrow lead.
Parkland goalkeeper Audrina Stewart also turned in an impressive performance, recording 10 saves against Emmaus’ relentless offensive pressure. The Trojans also received a defensive save to keep the game within reach.
With Parkland still trailing by just one goal entering the final quarter, Emmaus delivered the decisive score.
Horner struck again in the fourth quarter, this time converting a scoring opportunity off an assist from Lovey Pilarski to extend the Green Hornets’ advantage to 2-0.
The second goal provided Emmaus with some breathing room and put the finishing touches on another championship performance.
Horner’s two-goal effort highlighted an Emmaus attack that consistently created scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
The Green Hornets also held a 5-3 advantage in penalty corners, keeping pressure on Parkland’s defensive unit.
Despite the loss, Parkland demonstrated why it reached the district championship game. Stewart’s 10 saves helped keep the Trojans competitive against one of the area’s strongest teams.
For Emmaus, the victory was about more than another championship trophy. It represented the continuation of a remarkable tradition that has seen generations of Green Hornets players maintain the program’s dominance in District 11 field hockey.
Thirty-eight consecutive district championships is an extraordinary accomplishment, highlighting the program’s ability to sustain success year after year despite changing players, graduating seniors and new challenges from opponents.
The Green Hornets have now won all 23 games this season, and their latest victory ensures that the District 11 Class 3A championship trophy remains with Emmaus for another year.
With the district title secured, Emmaus will turn its attention to the PIAA Class 3A state tournament.
The Green Hornets will open state tournament play on Tuesday, November 10, looking to extend their undefeated season and continue their pursuit of a state championship.
For now, Emmaus can celebrate another historic achievement: a perfect 23-0 record, a district championship shutout and an incredible 38 consecutive District 11 field hockey titles.
