The Pirates took on Wilson on Friday night for their second game of the season. Palisades suffered a loss last week against Northwestern Lehigh, so both the Pirates and Wilson were looking for their first win. It was also Wilson’s first game of their season.

The game started off quick, with Mason Smeland having a 25-yard run touchdown to make it 6-0. Palisades kicker Delaney Hilferty stepped up and came through with the extra point kick to make it 7-0 Palisades. However with 3:20 left on the clock in the first quarter, Wilson returned the effort with an 80 yard touchdown by CJ Fazio. The extra point kick was good as well, tying the game at 7 all.

In the second quarter, Smeland pushed in another touchdown for the Pirates with three minutes left on the clock. The extra point kick was good, making the score 14-7. The joy didn’t last long though, when Wilson took one to the house, a touchdown by Damian Simpson. However, Wilson attempted the two-point conversion and just couldn’t connect, leaving the score at 14-13. At the end of the second quarter, Ben Haubert powered through from the seven-yard line to score, now 21-13 after the extra point.

Quarter three was a back and forth battle between both teams until Haubert scored his second touchdown of the night. With three quarters of the game over, Palisades led 28-13.

The final quarter started off fast with a 25-yard touchdown by once again Ben Haubert. Hilferty made her fifth extra point kick of the game, making the score 35-13. The clock kept winding down until five minutes left in the game, when Scott Seagreaves made his first touchdown, increasing the Pirates’ lead to 42-13. The Pirates kept up a tough defense until Wilson’s very own CJ Fazio scored his second touchdown of the game. That ended the scoring for the game, and Palisades took the win at 42-20.

Palisades has an away game against Northern Lehigh next week, while Wilson has an open spot and are looking to schedule anyone they can for next week. When talking to Wilson’s head coach Chris Labatch prior to the game, he said that his team is ready to go and just happy to be playing football once more.
