Indians hold the Blue Raiders

Tamaqua welcomed Lehighton for a Colonial-Schuylkill league matchup on Friday, October 10th. Both schools had records of (3-4) coming into the night. Lehighton hoped to turn things around after last week’s hard fought loss to (4-4) Blue Mountain. The Blue Raiders were taken down by the (7-0) Spartans of Southern Lehigh in week 7.

Even though the Blue Raiders received to start the game, the Tribe recovered a fumble off of Tamaqua’s first play of the game. This had Lehighton in good spirits. Junior running back, Lukas Crozier spilled through the trenches for a 25-yard score. The Indians jumped on the board early, only five minutes in. With roughly nine minutes left in the first quarter, Indians’ quarterback Jayse Lawrence had a tremendous run for 62 yards to the house. Lehighton made it 14-0 going into the locker room. Tamaqua was halted by the Tribe defense from acquiring any points before half.

The Indians had the opening possession in the second half of the game. Just around the nine minute mark, the Tribe pulled away further to a 20-0 lead after Lawrence found Blake Roberts for a short five-yard pass. Tamaqua wouldn’t think much of it, because in their following possession, running back Terrance McDowell found a hole for a 19-yard Blue Raider touchdown run. They were eager to get things closer when they completed a two-point attempt. Schickram to McCabe made it 20-8 with just seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Lehighton used the Tamaqua score as motivation when Jayse Lawrence connected with Roberts for fourteen yards for a Lehighton score. Eight minutes were left as the scoreboard read 27-8. On the following Blue Raider drive, off a fresh set of downs, McDowell broke loose for a significant 58-yard scoring run. Tamaqua called for another two-point conversion and found success. This time it was quarterback Chase Serfass to Schickram for the contest’s ending score.

Lehighton held off the Blue Raiders 27-16. The Indians will host the (5-3) Spartans of North Schuylkill on home turf for senior night this coming Friday. Tamaqua goes on the road to face off against the (8-0) Northwestern Lehigh Tigers as they aim to remain on top of the standings.
