The Lehighton Indians welcomed the North Schuylkill Spartans for their first home game in Boys Varsity Basketball. Lehighton came into the game with a record of 1-1, while North Schuylkill came into the game with a record of 0-2.
North Schuylkill was able to lead at the end of the first quarter after some missed layups by Lehighton by a score of 9-8. Richie Yturrino scored six of Lehighton’s eight points in the first quarter. Lehighton was able to pull ahead of North Schuylkill 18-16 at the end of the second quarter thanks to Tyler Rehrig who made two three-pointers. In the third quarter, Lehighton pulled away from North Schuylkill with the help of Rehrig, Yturrino, and Jack Lorenz.
Lehighton held North Schuylkill to just seven points in the third quarter making the score 41-23. Lehighton extended their lead after Carter Strauss scored four points quickly in the fourth quarter. Lehighton sealed the deal when Mason Costenbader scored six points in under one minute with just over two minutes to play.
Jack Flynn for North Schuylkill did everything to complete a miraculous comeback in the second half scoring 14 of his 17 points. Lehighton held on to win by a score of 55-43.
Lehighton improves to 2-1 on the season while North Schuylkill falls to 0-3. Lehighton’s top scorers were Richie Yturrino, the D11Sports Player of the Game, with 17 points and Tyler Rehrig who chipped in nine. North Schuylkill’s top scorers were Jack Flynn with 17 and Adam Scott with eight. Lehighton’s next game is Monday, January 18th at 7:00PM as they travel to Panther Valley to take on the Panthers. North Schuylkill’s next game is Saturday, January 16th at 7:30PM as they travel to Weatherly to take on the Wreckers.
