Outlook: There are many unknowns with this team, but that is what makes this team fun to coach. With a new head coach, a new system, and without having a traditional off-season, we were forced to hit the ground running on November 20th.
It may take some time to get used to playing with each other, but I look forward to seeing everything unfold.
What is the key to your season?
Just like everyone else, the key to our season is staying healthy. I’ve stolen the phrase “Operation Warp Speed” when anyone asks me about my outlook on this season. 21 games in a little over 6 weeks is going to be a grind, so taking care of ourselves is going to be vital.
Other than that, I need girls who have been role players for years to take on leadership roles this year. If we can accomplish that, I feel that we can have a successful season.
Who is your leader on your team and why?
It’s very difficult to pin-point one specific leader in this group. Claudia Clark is our most battle-tested player and has the most experience on our team so that will play a big factor. Meghan Macleary and Cealinn Mcgroarty are returning starters and played key roles in last season’s success. And Allyson Babinsky will be taking over as the Floor General for me. None of them are the most vocal girls in the world, but they work extremely hard and lead by example.
Any newcomers that could impact your team this year and why?
Allyson Babinsky, although not a newcomer to the team, is a newcomer to the starting lineup. Being our point guard, I’m very confident with the ball being in her hands during crucial situations. Also, Haley Moss will be our 5th starter and is another newcomer to the starting lineup who I feel will make a positive impact on our team with her length and speed.
