Minersville Defeats Pottsville In Tough Martz Hall Environment

It was a low scoring game with a crazy ending. Minersville came out on top against Pottsville in boys basketball 44-34 at Martz Hall on Thursday. Juju Brainbridge and Pottsville’s head coach Jake Wartella both got a technical foul with less than a minute left in the game to hand Minersville the win.

For Minersville, Shazier Bethea led the team with 15 points. Bradley Kostishak had all ten points as layups and Jordan Bowers contributed with eight points. Other scorers include Dante Carr (7), Dawsyn Manning (2), and Logan Hutsko (2). Letrel Montone had 13 points for the Crimson Tide. Ryder Bowers scored 11 points and Derek Watkins netted eight points. Pottsville’s other scorer was Christian Alvarez (2). Minersville didn’t have an issue with fouls as they had seven team fouls during the game. However, Pottsville had an issue with fouls as they had 14 for the team including two technicals.

In the first quarter, it was a low scoring game with the score being a 7-6, with a Miners lead where Dante Carr had three points. In the second quarter, Minersville outscored Pottsville 9-4 to go in the half with a 16-10 lead. Jordan Bowers ended the third quarter with a three pointer with around one second left to put Minersville up 31-20. The fourth quarter was insane, especially within the last minute with those two technical fouls. Shazier Bethea knocked down all three foul shots to secure the Miners’ win.

Minersville’s head coach, Dave Mullaney, was the former head coach at Pottsville. This is his first win against Pottsville and he was really happy about it after the game.

Minersville improves to 4-0 with their next game at Danville on Saturday with a scheduled 2pm tipoff. The Crimson Tide fall to 3-1 with a home game against Wilson scheduled for a 3pm start on Saturday.
