Northwestern captures their first District Championship in 15 years

The Zephyr Sports Complex in Whitehall the site for the District XI 1A field hockey Championship. Northwestern came into he game as a number two seed with Moravian Academy the top seed.

The Lions would strike first in this one with 14:40 left in the first half. Emma McWilliams would find the back of the cage to give Moravian a 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later, the Tigers would respond on a goal by Lauren Schellhamer tying the game at 1-1. And that would be your score at the half.

Both teams with a couple of solid chances in the second half but no one would score, 1-1 end of regulation and we were headed into overtime. This game would come to an end less than four minutes late. Senior Allyson Myers, the hero, as she delivers the game winning goal with 11:25 remaining in the extra frame leading Northwestern to the 2-1 overtime win.

Its the first District XI Championship for Northwestern since winning back to back titles in 2003-04. They improve to 17-5-1 while Moravian Academy falls to 18-4. Both are headed to the PIAA tournament which gets underway next week.
