The Palisades Girls’ Softball Team started off strong with a scrimmage against Faith Christian on Tuesday. This scrimmage made history, as it was the first time that Palisades was playing Faith Christian in softball. Both teams were looking forward to one of their first matchups of the season, and sought to take home a win. Faith Christian is playing with a younger team this year, so this scrimmage was a chance for them to prove themselves. Additionally, Palisades has a mix of young and established players and was ready to show that they are a competitive team.
The game started slowly, with Faith Christian going down in three batters and Palisades in four to end the first inning. Inning two was where the excitement started to happen. In the bottom of the second, Palisades started their rhythm, earning their first few runs. As the game continued, Palisades kept racking up the scoreboard, while Faith Christian remained silent until the third inning. Though they earned their first couple of runs, they were no match for Palisades’ bats, which continued to battle throughout the game. One notable hit was Brooke Gerhardt’s line drive into left field which cleared the bases and gave herself the first Palisades triple of the season.
Due to this game being a scrimmage, there were a few different rules. Instead of hitting until there were three outs, each team only had a maximum of nine hitters, or one time through the batting order, per inning. Additionally, the scrimmage was called after six innings, not the normal seven.
Additionally, Covid-19 precautions were in place throughout the game. Fans were allowed, but not within six feet of the bench and whenever the girls were in the dugout, masks needed to be worn. Masks could be worn on the field as well, but this was a personal choice per player.
The game ended with a popup into center field with Palisades earning the win. The final score was 15-4. Palisades’ next game is on Friday, away against Notre Dame Green Pond.
