Rovers Win Home Opener in Back to Back Years

It was a warm Friday night at Cottingham Stadium and the Rovers came in looking to prove something. The defending EPC champions took on their only loss of the regular season last year in CB West, and got their revenge. They were calm and collected and stuck through it until the end. As for CB West, they struggled to find the end zone until they made an admirable comeback attempt but came up just short. The final score from the home opener, 26-20, Rovers came out on top.

After speaking with both coaches before the game, CB West knew that last year’s win did not matter and that it was a new year. Their focus was defense. The Bucks did not want to let the Rovers offense explode for big plays at a time. Lastly their key focus was to focus. Cottingham is a loud and obnoxious stadium in a good way, but not for the opposing team. They wanted to control the controllables as much as they could. After having a quick word with the Rovers head coach, Matt Seneca, all he said was play hard and limit mistakes. That is exactly what the Rovers did.

During the game it was all Red up until the fourth quarter where CB West attempted a comeback but came up short. For Easton, they scored four total touchdowns throughout the game, and three of those came on the ground from the senior captain QB Cole Ordway. Ordway was awarded player of the game due to his ability to improvise and scramble outside of the pocket for big gains and for his ability to break off option plays for touchdowns including an 88 yard touchdown run. Defensively the Rovers held strong until the fourth quarter when CB West began their comeback attempt. The Rover secondary was able to break up passes all night long and their front line was able to pressure their run heavy offense all night long.

For CB West, they struggled in the first three quarters offensively and defensively allowing a total of 19 points in the first three quarters and giving up a two minute drill passing touchdown to end the first half. It was not until early in the fourth quarter where they broke off a 63-yard touchdown run to give them some momentum. They continued scoring touchdowns off the back of their quarterback and running back both in the red zone making it a one possession game late. They completed most of their pregame goals, except for having a sound defense. They look to have that as their key focus at practice this week.

As for both teams they look to fix their mistakes at practice this week, for Easton it will be a hard week at practice as always, for CB West even harder. Easton travels next week to Springford to take on a team they handled with ease last year. We will have to wait and see if these Rovers will keep rolling. The final score was 26-20 Easton with the win.
