On Tuesday night the Lady Slaters traveled to the PPL center, for the District 5A girls basketball championship. They took on the Bethlehem Catholic hawks in an exciting matchup.
In the first quarter of the game, the Lady Slaters took control of the ball quickly and dominated on the court. Seniors Emma Stout and Madison Kluska were the Top Scorers for the Slaters. The Bethlehem Catholic hawks got 12 points up on the board with top scorers being freshman Cici Hernandez and junior Cydney Stanton. Both teams displayed excellent teamwork as well as determination for a win. Honorable mentions to Bangor Sophomore Emma Toth for scoring an extra two points at the free throw line, and senior Emma Stout for six points in the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Slaters continued their lead with a score of 22-21. They executed their plays and drove the ball straight to the basket. The top scorer for Bangor was sophomore Madeline Stout.
After halftime the girls were ready to play to get the gold! However, Becahi took the lead and ended the third quarter 34-26. Kourtney Wilson from Becahi hit an amazing three pointer which allowed them to breakaway and take the lead.
In the final quarter of the game, the Slaters fought hard and tied the score 34-34. Senior Madison Kluska and Sophomore Brynn Holland scored two three pointers to create a nail biting end to this phenomenal game. In the end Becahi won with a score of 46-39 with top scorers for them being freshman Cici Hernandez and junior Kourtney Wilson.
