SOFTBALL: Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup Blanks Philadelphia Catholic/Inter-Ac 7-0 Behind Dominant Pitching

The Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball team used a huge fourth inning and dominant pitching to roll past the Philadelphia Catholic/Inter-Ac squad, 7-0, in Carpenter Cup action.

After scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning, Lehigh Valley broke the game wide open in the fourth, erupting for six runs on five hits to put the game out of reach.

Lehigh Valley struck first in the opening inning when Natalie Lilly tagged up and scored on a fly ball from Peyton Besecker, taking advantage of a Philadelphia defensive miscue for a 1-0 lead.

The offense exploded in the fourth inning, beginning with Sydney Ryan ripping an RBI double to left field to score Riley Palank and extend the lead to 2-0. Maddie Bixler followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, as Natalie Conner scored to make it 3-0.

Lehigh Valley kept the pressure on as Sydney Bennett delivered an RBI single to score Hailey George, before Lilly came through with a two-run single that scored Kiley Henritzy and Bennett. JoJo Siegfried capped the inning with an RBI single to right field, scoring Lilly and pushing the advantage to 7-0.

In the circle, Rylee Gable was outstanding for Lehigh Valley, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out nine. Maddie Bixler closed the door in relief with a scoreless fifth inning, striking out three as the Lehigh Valley staff combined for a two-hit shutout and 12 strikeouts.

Lehigh Valley finished with nine hits in the victory. Lilly led the offense by going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Siegfried added two hits and an RBI. Bennett chipped in with a hit, run scored, and RBI, while Ryan and Henritzy each doubled.

Philadelphia Catholic/Inter-Ac managed just two hits in the game, with Eva Stafiniak and Mae Kearney collecting the team’s lone knocks.

So far today, Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup is 2-0 and their next game is against Delaware County at 1:15 pm.
