Stroudsburg weekly recap 4/19-4/24

It was an all too familiar experience for Mountaineer athletics as this past week was interrupted by the coronavirus. Luckily, practices and games only had to be halted for Wednesday and Thursday as Stroudsburg High School was shut down.

To start with, the Stroudsburg baseball team saw their struggles continue early in the week. After falling to Pocono Mountain West 12-1 on Tuesday and to Nazareth 5-3 on Friday, their losing streak was extended to four games. This was not the case on Saturday morning. The Mountaineers were able to get revenge on the road at West by a score of 14-2.

The baseball team has a full schedule next week. They will travel to Emmaus on Monday and to Freedom on Wednesday. Then, Northampton and Delaware Valley will travel to Stroudsburg on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Moving ahead to softball, the girls were able to stay undefeated with a 12-0 win over West on Tuesday. They look to continue their winning ways with competitions against Emmaus, Freedom, Northampton, and Delaware Valley this upcoming week.

It is championship season for boys tennis. The Mounties capped off a 13-2 season with a 4-3 win over Easton on Tuesday. On Friday, Junior John Willis won EPC gold in singles tennis, and Junior Jackson Kozma took fourth place.

The tennis team will travel to Parkland on Monday for the D11 singles championships.

The track and field team experienced heartbreak and triumph. On Friday, the boys and girls traveled to Pocono Mountain West. The team was only able to practice on Monday before the meet on Friday. This certainly did not help the boys, as they were narrowly defeated by a score of 76-74. The girls, however, won handily, 98-52.

The track team looks to perform well against Pleasant Valley on Tuesday, April 27.
