In a Schuylkill League Softball contest on Thursday afternoon at Ken Schneck Field, the Battlin’ Miners of Minersville defeated Nativity 15-0 in three innings. This marks the first win of the season for the young Minersville team and the first career win as head coach for Kate Rittenbaugh.
Sara McGrath led the Miners at the plate with a perfect 3-3 along with three runs and four RBI’s. Isabella Rizzardi went 2-3 and had three runs and two RBI’s. Eila O’Brien went 2-3 from the plate and had two RBI’s. For the Green Wave, the only hit of the game went to Chloe Covell, who was 1-1.
O’Brien secured the win for Minersville, pitching all three innings, only giving up one hit. She also had two walks and four strikeouts. Covell had the loss for the Green Wave as she went 2.2 innings pitched with giving up 10 hits, 15 runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. There were also eight errors by the whole team combined while she was in the circle.
After this contest, the Battlin’ Miners improve to 1-3 on the season with their next game on Saturday at 10:00am at Selinsgrove. Nativity is still searching for its first win as they fall to 0-4. Their next contest is Friday at 4:30pm against Lincoln Leadership Academy.
