On Saturday, October 3rd at 5 pm, the Saucon Valley Panthers hosted the Bangor Slaters. At the 8:13 mark of the first quarter, Bangor’s Striba was able to get a one-yard touchdown and the kick was good. Mahaffey kept finding the hands of Csencsits, but this was not enough to get past the Slaters for a touchdown. After a hard-fought quarter on both ends, the score at the end of the first quarter was 7-0 in favor of Bangor.
The Panther’s Csencsits answered going 38 yards for a touchdown at 8:11 in the second quarter. The kick was no good. At the 1:34 mark, Bangor’s Striba was able to run the ball in for a 15-yard touchdown. The kick was good. Going into halftime, the score was 14-6 in favor of Bangor.
Both teams came into the second half looking strong. Jared Reto of the Slaters was able to get a five-yard touchdown at 9:04 in the third and the kick was no good.
The Panthers continued to keep their heads held high. On a Bangor drive at 4:24 of the third quarter, Pfizenmayer was able to get a big interception and run it down for a 47-yard touchdown. The kick was good. After another Banger turnover, Saucon’s Torres was able to push threw the defense to get the one-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good. The score at the end of the quarter was 20-19 in favor of the Slaters.
With a one-point game, both teams looked fired up at the beginning of the fourth quarter. A long Bangor possession culminated with 5:40 left in the game as Striba ran the ball in for a five-yard touchdown with the extra point being no good.
Saucon Valley’s Mahaffey was able to utilize his speed to run in for a 16-yard touchdown with 3:14 left in the game. The attempted two-point conversion was no good. With 1:40 left in the game, Striba was able to break away from the Panther defense to run the ball down for a 71-yard touchdown. They went for a two-point conversion, which was a success.
The final score of the game was Bangor 34 and Saucon 25. The Slaters were able to come out of an away game with a win.
Up next, the Panthers are scheduled to play at rival school, Southern Lehigh on Friday, October 10th with kickoff at 7 pm. The Slaters are scheduled to play on the road for another week at Palisades on Friday, October 10th with kickoff at 7 pm.
