The Spartans advance in the state playoffs

Catasauqua High School the site for the opening round of the PIAA Volleyball Tournament. Southern Lehigh, the District XI 3A Champions knew they would have their hands full against West York, who came in as the defending State Champions.

The Spartans, under head coach Don West Jr. still on a high after beating 4-time defending champion Central Catholic a week ago. Set number one all Southern Lehigh early behind kills by Mackenzie Feight and Cortney Kylish. West York goes on a 7-1 run to take the lead, following a kill by Alyana Harris. Back and forth from there but Kate Miller comes up with a huge kill and the Spartans take set one 28-26.

Set number 2 a bit different as West York jumped out to the quick lead as they come up with a nice team block. The Spartans respond on a kill by Kylish and then the great touch from Brooke Adams to go up 13-12. Back and forth from there, tied at 17,18, and 19 but it’s a huge cross court kill by Kylish the difference as Southern Lehigh wins the second set 25-20 to go 2 sets to zero.

Onto set number three, The Spartans jump out to the quick 5-0 lead but the Bulldogs have other ideas as they got some huge kills by Tesia Thomas and stay alive with a 25-18 win.

Set 4: And Southern Lehigh responds. A kill by Feight makes it 12-3 and then a nice put-away from Alyssa Adams to increase the lead to eventually 20-5. Southern Lehigh wins 25-11 and they are moving on to the state quarterfinals on Saturday.
