Schuylkill League Girls Soccer Semifinal Recap

Game #1: Blue Mountain vs Schuylkill Haven

Blue Mountain faced off against Schuylkill Haven in the Schuylkill League Girls Soccer Semifinals at Lehighton. Blue Mountain entered with an 11-7 record, while Schuylkill Haven entered with a record of 16-0.

Blue Mountain quickly got on the board on a goal by Sophia Chipriano giving them the 1-0 lead early over Schuylkill Haven. Blue Mountain then scored two quick goals back-to-back on goals by Lindsay Kutz and Lexi Phillips. Chipriano scored again making the score 4-0.

Blue Mountain had a comfortable lead heading into the half. Despite numerous shots on goal, no goals were scored in the second half until Kutz added another goal for Blue Mountain with about five minutes to play. Blue Mountain won 5-0 over Schuylkill Haven. “I’m glad that we were able to pass enough and finish shots,” said team captain Megan Thompson. “It was a good opportunity to play in the Semifinals.”

Game #2: Nativity vs Pottsville

Nativity faced Pottsville in the Schuylkill League Girls Soccer Semifinals at Lehighton. Nativity entered with a 10-6-1 record while Pottsville entered with a record of 13-4-1.

Pottsville quickly scored two goals within the first five minutes of the game. The goals were scored by Ava Goodman and Grace Evans. Evans scored again, with an assist from Ryleigh Cook, for Pottsville giving them a 3-0 lead over Nativity with 19:00 remaining in the first half. Before the half, Cook scored another goal for Pottsville giving them a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

The lone goal of the second half came from Goodman giving Pottsville a 5-0 lead with a handful of minutes to play. Pottsville won 5-0 over Nativity. “I think we connected really well. I think we could have done a little better, knowing that it was Nativity. I think we could have put ourselves together a little more,” said Pottsville captain Ava Goodman. “We had a lot of hard work during the season. Hopefully, we can put it away.”

With their victories, Blue Mountain and Pottsville will face off in the finals on Thursday, October 20th at 5:00 PM.
