A Week in Catty Sports (9/24-9/29)

The month of September came to a close last week with several Catasauqua sports teams looking to build for the rest of the regular season.

The field hockey team brought their record to 5-7 with two wins this week. On Monday, Catty beat Saucon Valley 3-1. On Wednesday, the girls had a shutout win against Northern Lehigh, scoring 5-0.

Catty girls volleyball picked up two losses and one win making their record 5-11. On Monday, they lost to Saucon Valley in three sets. On Wednesday they hosted Palmerton for a close game. Only two points were the difference, winning three out of the five sets. Palmerton took the win in the first set, but Catty responded with a 25-10 win in the second set. The Bombers won the third set, but the Catty girls finished the game with two close wins in the next sets. On Saturday they competed closely with Dieruff but ultimately lost 4-1.

The cross-country team traveled to Northern Lehigh for a meet on Tuesday. The top finisher for the boys was sophomore Evan Reed who finished in 20:30.79 to place 25th out of 73 runners. The top finisher for the girls was senior Alivia Bear who ran the course in 21:03.23 to place 6th out of 39 girls.

Girls soccer picked up three losses and a tie this week. To start the week off they played away at Lehighton and lost 5-0. On Tuesday they hosted Palmerton and lost 5-2. They traveled to Bangor on Thursday for a 5-1 loss. On Saturday, Catty hosted Salisbury and went into double overtime. The game ended with a score of 0-0, making the team’s record 1-11-1.

Boys soccer added two losses this week to make their record 3-8. They traveled to Palmerton for a close 2-1 defeat on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Roughs hosted Bangor for a “Salute the Service” night. The boys had camouflage uniforms to honor the PA Army National Guard. They lost to Bangor 5-0.

On Friday night, the Catty football team traveled to Schuylkill Haven’s Rotary Field for a close loss. The final score was 22-13, giving the Roughs a record of 3-3 and upping the Hurricanes’ record to 5-1.
