On August 30th, 2024, the Spring-Ford Rams came into Cottingham Stadium looking to come out with an easy victory, but Coach Seneca and his Red Rovers had other plans. The Rovers cruised to an easy win over Spring-Ford with a final score of 49-7.
Coming into this game, the talk of the town was that Matthew Zoller, one of Pennsylvania’s highest-ranked quarterback commits, was going to tear up this Red Rover defense. However, after a pregame talk with Seneca, he said, “I don’t know if you can ever limit a kid like this, just have to limit the big plays.” and that is exactly what they did.
Zoller struggled to handle pocket pressure all night and ended the game with no passing touchdowns and three interceptions. To add to this, Spring Ford struggled to maintain this Rover offense allowing thirty-five points in the first half and forty-nine unanswered until late in the fourth quarter where they scored their first passing and only touchdown of the game on an out route. Spring-Ford looks to have a tough week at practice and to bounce back in their game against Downingtown East next Friday.
As for the Red Rovers, these dogs were barking all night long. After electing to receive on the coin toss, the Rover offense marched down and scored their first touchdown of many, on a rushing touchdown from senior running back, Dorian Thomas, and that would be his first of two in last night’s game. Senior back Will Day also had a day for himself recording a hat trick in last night’s effort. Awarded with the D11 Sports Player of the Game was senior corner and receiver, Cale Disora, who recorded two interceptions, a touchdown, and multiple tackles on the night. Disora had this to say about his team in his post-game interview, “I feel pretty good and we came in as a team wanting to prove something and I feel we proved that.” Disora was the key factor in the big win for the Rovers.
Adding to the strong performance for the Rovers was junior back, Chris Martinez, who scored his first varsity touchdown in last night’s effort. On the defensive side of the ball, it was Easton’s defensive line who managed to put pressure on the quarterback and made him make decisions. Easton’s senior edge rush, Mekhi Grants, was able to put the pressure on Zoller all night recording a sack and forcing bad decisions. Though the flags were flying and the teams went back and forth, Easton held strong and came out with the win.
Easton looks to use this game as a momentum boost going into their matchup next week against Northeast to come out with another big win. As for Spring-Ford, they are going to look to improve up front on their offensive and defensive line and bounce back from this tough loss. The Red Rovers came out with the victory with a final score of 49-7.
