Starting this afternoon, six teams will get the chance to play at one of the best high school basketball venues in the country, Martz Hall. There are now two divisions in the Schuylkill League so the top three teams from each division are taken in the tournament. No matter if you are going for the boys or girls tournament, expect an amazing environment.
Division one is represented by the first seed North Schuylkill Spartans. Seed number two goes to the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes and the third spot goes to the Blue Raiders of Tamaqua. Transitioning over to Division two, they’re highlighted by their first seed, the Fillies of Marian Catholic. After that, it goes Williams Valley and Lourdes. Below is the schedule for the girls playoffs.
2/8/25
– Schuylkill Haven (Div 1, 2 seed) vs Lourdes (Div 2, 3 seed) @ 2:00pm
– Williams Valley (Div 2, 2 seed) vs Tamaqua (Div 1, 3 seed) @ 3:30pm
2/11/25
– Marian Catholic (Div 2,1 seed) vs G1 winner @ 6:00pm
– North Schuylkill (Div 1, 1 seed) vs G2 winner @ 7:30pm
2/14/25
– G3 winner vs G4 winner @ 6:00pm
Starting with North Schuylkill, they have Mya Conti who has a good shot when she shoots the ball. The Spartans have several others on that team can really shoot too. The Hurricanes from Schuylkill Haven are led by Mckenna Runkle who is averaging almost 12 PPG. Runkle, by far, has the most points this season out of any Hurricane. She can drive to the basket and shoot the ball. The last Division 1 team to talk about is Tamaqua who have Lauren Ligenza and Kolbe Robb. These two players are on top of almost all of the stats so watch out for those two. Moving to Division 2, we go to Marian Catholic under the direction of Damian Fritz. This team doesn’t have one player that stands out, but their best three players are Addison Fritz, Addy Marek, and Deanna Pugh. The Vikings of Williams Valley, who defeated the Fillies, have Sage Smeltz. She dropped 40 points on Senior Night where she scored more points than some teams had. This will be the first time the Vikings will be at Martz Hall for Schuylkill League Playoffs. Last but not least, we look at the Red Raiders of Lourdes out of District 4. This team can hang with top teams in their division, but can they compete with teams like North Schuylkill?
I think that all six of these teams have many keys to success in this tournament and it’ll be a joy to watch. Remember that D11 Sports will livestream the Semifinals and Finals of both tournaments. If you can’t be at Martz Hall, go onto YouTube and watch our broadcast of the games.
