Blue Mountain football star commits to West Virginia

From Route 61 to the country roads in Morgantown, Chase Guers picked the Mountaineers over 16 other schools such as Syracuse and Cincinnati. The four-star wide receiver announced his commitment to play in Morgantown on Instagram and X on Thursday afternoon.

He is the first Eagle to play Division One football since 2021 graduate Gavin Bartholomew, who played as a tight end at the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, he is not the only member of the Guers family to play college football as his brothers, Gaige (‘25 WR, Kutztown) and Gavin (‘22 DL, SUNY Cortland) also played at different levels.

In his junior season on the football field, Guers had 535 receiving yards with six touchdowns on 35 receptions according to MaxPreps. Along with a standout junior football season, he had a great year on the track, winning the 100m state championship with a time of 10.61 and took the silver medal in the 200m with a time of 21.59 in the PIAA 3A Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University in May.

Guers becomes the 23rd commit to West Virginia and the fifth wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting class for Rich Rodriguez’s Mountaineers.
