Emmaus and Whitehall faced off in a week three matchup at Whitehall with the Hornets 1-1 and Whitehall 0-2. Emmaus’ Jake Moyer got his first start on varsity, taking over for the injured Alex Lanzone. Jake was impressive. He hit Jameel Sanders on the first play from scrimmage for the Hornets. Sanders was wide open and he walked in for a TD. 7-0 Emmaus.
Whitehall’s Ali Barkley also looked good, but it would take a few drives for him to settle in. Emmaus got the ball back and moved it down for a touchdown. Jared Groller got his second career varsity touchdown and it was now 14-0.
Ali Barkley would show up on the next drive for the Zephyrs as he took it to the house. The score was 14-7 now and Whitehall was looking to make it a game.
Emmaus just wouldn’t let that happen. Jake Moyer proved himself as he and the Hornets marched down the field. Jameel Sanders again finished the drive off with a TD. The score was 21-7 now and Whitehall’s offense was not able to connect on any plays. Emmaus took over again and marched down for a Brandon Camire TD.
Late second quarter, Ali Barkley went 83 yards and score. Now the score was 28-14. Emmaus got the ball back and Brandon Camire blew by everyone. He walked into the end zone barely touched. The score was 35-14 Emmaus. Whitehall would go three and out and punt.
Brandon Camire on the next drive went to the house again. It was a 42-14 the halftime score. Emmaus received the second half kickoff. Jake Moyer connected with Chad Newhard for a Hornet TD, 49-14 Emmaus.
The mercy rule went into effect. Whitehall would add a touchdown with 1:32 seconds left. 49-21.
Emmaus went back out in victory formation, took a kneel down and rushed the field to celebrate win number two out of three.
For the Zephyrs they still are searching for win number one. They would fall to 0-3. They take on Central Catholic next Friday. Emmaus will host Pleasant Valley next Friday and they look to take momentum into week four.
