Nazareth shocks Parkland in District XI Girls Soccer

The Parkland Trojans Girls soccer team was the overwhelming favorite to win their 5th straight District XI Championship. But, the Nazareth had other ideas as the 8th seeded Blue Eagles pulled off the upset of the year on Thursday night, as they handed Parkland their first loss of the year and also ending the Trojans season.

Abigail James got the Blue Eagles going with a goal with 7:39 left in the first half and that’s was the score at the half. From there, chances by both teams before Hayden Berner found the back of the net around the 4-minute mark left in regulation to increase the lead to 2-0. Parkland quickly countered on a goal by Zuzu Mohamed a minute later to cut the lead to 2-1.

But, it was Nazareth’s night as they pulled off the upset 2-1 over Parkland, who saw their season come to an end at 20-1-1. Nazareth is now headed to the District XI 4A semifinals to face #5 Pleasant Valley on Tuesday night. The game will start at 5pm at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium with Northampton and Freedom matching up in the other semifinal.
