Nazareth vs. Pocono Mountain East: Girls Soccer District Semifinals

On Wednesday November 4th, the Nazareth Lady Blue Eagles soccer team hosted Pocono Mountain East in the District XI Semifinals match. Neither team needed too long to warm up. As soon as the whistle blew the ball was flying up and down the field. The first goal came for Nazareth with 27 minutes left in the first half. Kayley Hynes had a cross that landed at Abby James’ feet before she blasted it into the goal. The next ten minutes were back and forth action as the ball changed from team to team. Then, with ten minutes left in the first half, Kayley Hynes and Abby James did it again, as Hynes’ assist resulted in James’ goal. The score was 2-0. 

A minute later, Anita Vera drove the ball up the field passing to Hayden Berner. Berner’s kick found the back of the net, resulting in another goal for Nazareth. The score was 3-0. Pocono Mountain East was running out of time to catch up. With three minutes left in the first half, Skylar Jordan got Nazareth’s fourth goal after she heads the ball in with an assist from Sarah Topping. The score 4-0. 

The second half started with a bang. The stands and the field were buzzing at the pressure built on Pocono Mountain East. Ten minutes into the second half PME got their first goal off of a penalty kick as Alyssa Hooten shot into the bottom right corner. Nazareth goalkeeper Kelly Leszcysnki let in her first and only goal of the night, despite many attempts by Pocono Mountain East.

The final goal of the night came from Hayden Berner as she caught an impressive cross and an amazing header soared into the net. The final score was 5-1 and Nazareth came out of the match remaining undefeated. 

The Lady Blue Eagles will be playing their District XI AAAA Championship game versus Parkland this Saturday the 7th at the Zephyr Sports Complex. They are hopeful to come out with a win and keep their undefeated status.
