Palisades and New Hope Tie After Double Overtime

The Palisades Lady Pirates Girls Soccer Team took on New Hope on Thursday as a makeup game for Wednesday. Their scheduled home game had been postponed after heavy rains. Though the weather was cold and very windy, the turf was dry and the two teams were ready to play. Palisades was coming off of a win against Saucon the week before, and New Hope-Solebury had recently faced Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.

New Hope started off the game on the offense causing Palisades goalie Trinity Williams to make a few nice saves in the first fifteen minutes of the game. Palisades competed with their own goal attempt with twenty seven minutes left in the first period and then again with seven left. Some Pirates key players on both offense and defense included Kinga Szklarski, Kylie Schmidt, Emma Flinchbaugh, and Lauren Housenick. New Hope went on the prowl again at the end of the period, but were not successful causing the score to be 0-0 at the half.

The ball started the half primarily on Palisades’ territory, which forced the Pirates to have to use some tough defense. Paige Casterline for Palisades brought the ball back towards New Hope’s goal, but drove it out of bounds. Sydney Odle followed up Casterline’s momentum with some of her own, attempted a goal, but it was kicked just wide. As the clock wound down, New Hope kept up their offense and attempted multiple goals, though none were successful.

This brought the game to its first overtime. Casterline brought the ball close to scoring with her corner kick, but New Hope took the ball and tried to score themselves. After the score was still tied, Palisades and New Hope went to their second overtime.

Neither team scored again resulting in a tie. While the two teams played tough defense, offense took a hit today and neither team could pull off a win. This was the last regular scheduled game for both teams. Palisades is off to districts in the following weeks.
