St. Luke’s transforms Ice Arena into Training Facility

The fall athletic season is right around the corner and we are still in a state of unknown when it comes to actual PIAA competition. But, Bobby McClarin, St. Luke’s Community Ambassador and Sports Performance coach in the Sports Medicine Relationships division, has already been looking ahead. McClarin, along with Freedom strength and conditioning coach Imad Azar, Liberty strength and conditioning coach Adam Sankovsky, and coach Roberto Diez are doing their part to help student athletes.

The St. Luke’s staff has turned the Bethlehem Municipal Ice rink into an outdoor fitness center for students young and old. The 17,000 square foot complex is being used daily though a number of different sessions that bring together hundreds of student athletes looking to prepare for the upcoming season.

Social distancing guidelines are at the forefront as they use the rink space to safely train these young athletes who are looking to stay fit during the Covid-19 pandemic. The rink is being leased from the City of Bethlehem by St. Luke’s through funding provided by the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Performance.

It all started in mid June and will last six weeks.
