In the first quarter, Mahanoy Area started to turn the ball over. However, they were only down two at the end of that quarter, 13-11. Neither team scored over 10 points in the third quarter with Mahanoy scoring eight and the Battlin’ Miners scoring six. At the start of the fourth quarter, Mahanoy Area was up 32-28. Yedsena went out of the game with an ankle injury and later came out on crutches. Minersville started to score again along with good rebounding with putbacks, primarily from Carr. Manning started a scoring run for Minersville with a made layup while being fouled. He made the foul shot with about two minutes left to start the run that gave them the win.

Manning said after the game that their head coach, Dave Mullaney, wanted them to grind in the second half while talking to his team at halftime. The Battlin’ Miners celebrated with the speakers blasting in the locker room after the earned win against a previously unbeaten team. Mullaney’s Miners were locked in at practice in the days coming up to this game, and he’s super proud of them for beating such a good Mahanoy squad. Mullaney said their intensity increased from Tuesday’s loss to Pottsville compared to tonight’s victory.

Next on the schedule for Minersville is a away game against Panther Valley on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Can Mahanoy get back on the winning track against Pen Argyl on Saturday? That game is home at 1:00 p.m. Both teams are expected to make a run in the Schuylkill League and District 11 playoffs.
