From a stellar defense to a hard-nosed run game, Nazareth seemed to have it all in their win against Pocono Mountain East on Friday night. On the defensive side, Nazareth forced three fumbles and came up with two interceptions. Linebacker Jake Levey recovered one of those fumbles and turned it into a quick six points. Nate Stefanik returned an interception for a 60-yard touchdown for the Blue Eagles.
Nazareth also had four rushing touchdowns with four different players (one being their quarterback). Not one of these rushing touchdowns were scored by Kyle Paccio, who Nazareth fans assumed would be the starting running back this year. He is out with an injury. Surprisingly, the Blue Eagles only threw for one touchdown which was a 46-yard reception by Nate Stefanik.
Nazareth will take on the 1-0 Emmaus Green Hornets next week. Emmaus had an impressive 62-33 victory over William Allen. Both Nazareth and Emmaus had convincing wins this past Friday to start their season, however, Nazareth still has a chip on their shoulder from both of their losses against Emmaus last year. Can Nazareth’s defense hold off Emmaus’ high-powered offense? Head to East Penn School District Stadium next Friday night at 7:00 to find out.
